We are always looking for motivated people to join our program. Please get in touch if you are interested in plant virus ecology, virus-vector interactions, or virus disease management. Opportunities are contingent upon appropriate qualifications and interests, as well as the availability of funding. Opportunities for technical support and part time support will also be advertised here.
Undergraduates: Please contact me via email or come by my office (BRC 216). Undergraduate students are expected be enthusiastic and willing to try new research techniques and types of research. My philosophy is that undergraduate research is for exploring and developing your career goals and research interests.
Graduate students: (M.S. or Ph.D.) please contact me via email with your C.V. and a cover letter indicating your interest in our lab and your career goals. We accept students into the Plant and Environmental Sciences and Entomology graduate programs at Clemson.
Graduate students in the lab are expected to be self-motivated, responsible, mature colleagues. Project development and research topics will depend on the individual and their career goals, and will be discussed frequently at lab meetings and one-on-one meetings. Graduate students will be encouraged to practice writing and presenting early and often. I will provide you with the resources you need, encourage you, and support you in pursuit of your goals. Graduate students in my program will also be encouraged to write grant proposals, such as the NSF-GRFP, USDA-NIFA Predoctoral Fellowship, and various travel grants.
Postdocs: Prospective postdocs should get in touch with me to develop a project and secure funding. I firmly believe that postdocs should be funded at a level that is commensurate with their advanced degree, and therefore significant planning is required for a post doc to join the lab. Interested individuals are encouraged to write proposals, on which I will provide guidance and feedback. If funding for a postdoc is available via a specific grant, I will post here and advertise via professional societies (APS/ESA).
